Many of our workshops themes and structures can be tailored to specific groups of people, including LGBTIQ+, elderly and young people and/or people with special needs.

  • A deep and thorough exploration of the fundamentals of sustainable wearable art making by two award winning wearable artists.

    With a focus on recycled materials, this workshop will help participants rethink post-consumer waste as a design medium while also encouraging conversations about waste and recycling.
    After visual stimulus and a short presentation on wearable art, participants will be guided through the design process all the way to a finished art piece. Topics covered include: collecting appropriate materials, designing and planning, decorative techniques with recycled materials, using the correct tools and adhesives, and thinking about the wearability and performative durability of their wearable art piece.

    Duration: 4-6 hours + 1 hour setup/pack-down time (30 mins either side)

    Age: Suitable for ages 8+ Workshop can be tailored to specific age groups such as young people, children or adults. Suitable for collaborative group and partner work.

  • A costume, headdress and epaulet-making workshop with a focus on ubiquitous and free recycled materials. Let your imagination run wild to create an amazing piece of wearable art, while also facilitating conversations about waste and recycling.

    Participants in this workshop will learn costume making and millinery skills such as flat pattern construction with useful tips and tricks to create ‘trash couture’ wearable statement pieces from post-consumer waste cardboard and gleaned materials. Beginners can choose from multiple templates and design options to build a costume base from reused cardboard before decorating it with fabulous recycled colourful adornment.

    Topics covered include collecting appropriate materials, designing and planning your wearable art piece for longevity, creating a strong millinery or headdress base, decorative techniques with recycled materials, using the correct materials and adhesives, and understanding the importance of recycled materials.

    Duration: 3-6 hours + 1 hour setup/packdown time (30 mins either side)

  • Millinery (hat making) meets wearable art in this action packed introduction to blocking and making a headdress using non-traditional and easily accessible millinery materials. Learn useful millinery techniques to create your own Chaotic Couture headdress or hat under the guidance of two millinery and wearable art experts.

    Suitable for anyone interested in millinery, design, costume and sculpture, participants will learn the fundamentals of millinery such as blocking, wirework and finishing. With a focus on utilising recycled materials and accessing millinery skills on a budget, let your imagination run wild to create an amazing hat or piece of wearable art.

    Duration: 3 -4 hours + 1 hour setup/packdown time (30 mins either side)

  • Please note: This workshop is suited to a makers-space or similar space that provides sewing machines

    A fun, practical, inclusive and stress-free introduction to using a sewing machine and basic pattern making.

    We specialise in teaching sewing and pattern making skills to beginner and intermediate level sewers. With positive encouragement and an asset based focus we encourage people to explore their own creativity through the wonderful art of sewing! Whether someone has never used a sewing machine before, or they are looking to up-skill their previous knowledge- we can tailor our workshop to include everybody’s needs.

    Between us we have more than a decade of sewing experience to help nurture people’s confidence, sewing knowledge, increasing practical skills and empowering people to make their own clothing and accessories.

    Duration: 3-4 hours + 1 hour setup/pack down time (30 mins either side)

    Age: Suitable for ages 10+

  • A colourful introduction to craft and costume making, especially designed for younger workshop attendees.

    Participants will learn to utilise recycled yarn, fabric scraps and even unwanted shopping bags or gift-wrap to make pompoms, and then turn their fabulous handmade recycled pom-poms into accessories, headwear, toys, creatures, embellished clothing or gifts. This workshop will also cover the foundations of fashion & costume design, construction and colour theory to help guide people on their creative journey.

    Duration: 2-3 hours + 1 hour setup/pack down time (30 mins either side)

    Age: Suitable for all ages, workshop can be tailored to specific age groups such as children, young people or adults.

  • Learn to make a couture mask using recycled materials.

    Using recycled materials like fabric and cardboard, participants will design and construct their very own fashion couture mask. Includes introduction + discussion about theatrical, cultural and historical inspirations and meaning of masks. Various templates are provided to inspire and guide participants.

    Duration: 2 -4 Hours Hours + 1 hour setup/pack down time (30 mins either side)

    Age: Suitable for ages 12 +

  • A monster! A robot? An intergalactic-space-witch? A sea creature?
    (A similar workshop to ‘Mask Couture’ but tailored to smaller people).

    Participants will have the opportunity to create their own unique mask using recycled materials. Accompanied by a visual stimulus and mask making inspiration, young people will be able to make the mask of their wildest dreams using cardboard as a base.

    Duration: 2 hours + 1 hour setup/pack-down time (30 mins either side)
    Age: Suitable for ages 6 to 12

  • Turn your boring baseball cap or beanie into a bling-tastic one! Learn How to transform an existing piece of clothing into a unique piece of art!

    Participants will learn how to use three dimensional paint, embroidery techniques, recycled adornments and fabric application to up-cycle a basic cap or beanie into a work of art.

    Duration: 2 hours + 1 hour setup/pack-down time (30 mins either side)

    Age: Suitable for ages 8+ and can be tailored to particular groups such as children, young people or adults

  • Learn the art of textile manipulation and embellishment with age-old practical hand-sewing skills.

    With a focus on hand sewing and hand embroidery, this textile manipulation workshop is a great intro to the relaxing art of hand sewing embellishment. Using recycled materials such as jewellery and beads to embellish your clothes.
    Workshop begins with demonstrations and stitch sampling. Topics covered: sequining, beading, basic embroidery stitches and textile manipulation techniques. Participants will leave with a hand-embellished accessory or patch to decorate their own garment

    Age: Suitable for ages 15+

  • A super fun and hands-on creative workshop where participants will learn to use specific materials and tools to create their very own jewelry, bowties, phone case, headbands, earrings, hair clips, brooches, sunglasses and necklaces.

    We will provide exciting craft and jewelry-making supplies, with a focus on re-using recycled materials to adorn and decorate fun wearables, and learn some nifty craft tricks while we’re at it. Participants will leave with new knowledge as well as new items of jewelry or accessories to enjoy.

  • Learn some useful tips, tricks and practical skills to turn that bag of pre-loved clothing into amazing new outfits or accessories with two up cycling fashion and costume queens.

    Participants will learn sewing and cutting techniques to transform an old item of clothing into a new outfit. Thoughts about waste, landfill and the life cycle of a piece of clothing will be discussed within the workshop as well as loads of creative examples to inspire participants.
